“Going the Distance” — Drew Barrymore and Jason Long star as two young, ambitious hipsters so similar that they might as well have the same brain. As soon as they meet,Juicy Couture tracksuits, their patter and laughter is nonstop, and after close to two hours with them, you may start wishing for mechanical troubles on one of the cross-country flights that connects their long-distance relationship. The film, directed by documentarian Nanette Burstein, charts the trials of early 30s love, strained by logistics and the recession. The main alteration to the simple formula of “Going the Distance” is a heavy insertion of R-rated humor. Most of the crudeness comes from the supporting cast, largely populated by comedians: Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis, Jim Gaffigan, Rob Riggle, Kristen Schall and Christina Applegate in comedy mode. All the best bits come from this crew, but the tone still feels out of place. It’s as though Burstein tried to surround a sappy rom-com with Judd Apatow-inspired yucks. R for sexual content, including dialogue, language throughout, some drug use and brief nudity. 103 minutes. One and a half stars out of four.
“The American” — Hidden from critics until just before its release, the dirty secret about Anton Corbijn’s movie turns out to be that it’s an “art film.” Heavens, no! Corbijn, a famed photographer and music video director whose first film was 2007’s “Control,” has crafted a quiet, haunting European thriller, drained of emotion and moving at its own deliberate pace. George Clooney plays Jack, an assassin who builds highly precise rifles with the care of an artisan. He’s laying low in a stone labyrinth of a town in Abruzzo, the mountainous region in Italy. Though he’s supposed to be fully hardened, Jack slowly reveals weak spots for love, companionship and, yes, butterflies, one of which he has tattooed on his back. That “The American” is beautiful to look at is unquestionable; Corbijn’s formal mastery is something to behold. What is finally slightly disappointing in the film is the familiarity of its story: another tale of “one last job.” It’s difficult not to want Corbijn’s mournful seriousness to ease up a bit, but “The American” is transfixing in its muted grace. R for violence, sexual content and nudity. 105 minutes. Three stars out of four.
“Machete” — Robert Rodriguez extends the fake “Machete” trailer from his and Quentin Tarantino’s “Grindhouse” double-feature into a full-length revenge romp, maintaining a fair amount of the wicked humor and every bit of the savage bloodshed the make-believe ad promised. Danny Trejo stars as a former Mexican federal cop on a rampage of vengeance against drug dealers, brutal politicians and other bad guys. Viewers get precisely what they’re paying for: beheadings, skewerings and kill shots to the head by the dozen. They also get a crazy range of supporting players — Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Don Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan — all having a ball committing atrocities. Like most of Rodriguez’s movies, this one’s never as fun or funny as he thinks it is. There are clever wisecracks and stunts, but much of the violence is repetitive, and the movie lapses into indolence between action sequences. The good news for fans: there isn’t all that much downtime between the relentless action. R for strong bloody violence throughout, language, some sexual content and nudity. 105 minutes. Two and a half stars out of four.

Kim Kardashian is almost ready to be a mom.
“In five years I would hope to be settled down,American eagle, have a baby or two,” the E! reality star, 29, tells the September issue of Allure. “I always thought, ‘For sure, when I’m 30, I’ll have four kids, like my mom.” See more photos of Kim’s Allure photo shoot.

“The challenges of dating, gosh,” she says. “Who would ever want to deal with a hectic schedule and not really [getting] to see someone that often? That’s the reality of my life right now, that I don’t have a lot of time. You know, it’s tough, but I’m totally fine on my own. I’ve always been in a relationship. So it’s kind of refreshing to just do me 100 percent and not worry about, ‘Do I have to call this person when I get home?’”
She’s been burned before. A sex tape featuring her and ex boyfriend Ray J was released in 2007.
“Not my most proud moment,” she tells the magazine. “It was humiliating. But now let’s move on. Not that I don’t think it’s [no one's] business, but I think I’ve done a good job of replacing negative things with positive things.”
PHOTOS: Kardashians as kids!
Mom Kris is also raising Kourtney, 31, Khloe, 26 and Rob, 23, with the late Robert Kardashian. She and Bruce Jenner have two daughters: Kendall, 14, and Kylie, 12.
But Kim only plans to breastfeed for six months. (She set off a firestorm on UsMagazine.com — receiving more than 550 angry comments — when she Twittered “EWW I’m at lunch, the woman at the table next 2 me is breast feeding her baby w no coverup.”)
“They say that after a year, there’s no nutrients,” she says.
First things first: Kim — who split from Reggie Bush in March after about three years of on-again/off-again dating – needs to find a guy. She’s recently been linked to Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin, and “may go on a date” with Chace Crawford after cozying up to him at the Teen Choice Awards, a source tolld Us earlier this month. See Kim’s style evolution.
Not that she has time to get serious with anyone.
PHOTOS: See how Mason has grown
Eventually, she’d love to star in a sitcom, “maybe about a career woman,” she says.
Kim recalls her religious childhood.
“All the books we read before bed were, like, Bible-study books. Or little tales, like Samson and Delilah with cartoons. And my mom would have Bible study at the house with her girlfriends,” says Kim, who grew up in Beverly Hills and attended an all-girls school, where she was voted “Most Likely to Meet Her Husband at the Million Man March” and “Most Likely to Lie About Her Ethnicity.”
VIDEO: Kim kisses her bodyguard
She recalls having to explain the tape to Kylie and Kendall, who heard at school that Kim was a “porn star.”
Later, she posed on the cover of Playboy.
“It’s nothing that I regret — being on the cover of Playboy is very iconic,” she says. “I was like, ‘OK, I’m proud to do this and to show people that I don’t have to be stick-skinny to be looked at as a sex symbol, and to me that’s not what’s attractive anyway.’ So I was all for it, although I was very nervous.”
Continues Kim, “After the fact, I said, ‘I wish I hadn’t done Playboy then’ — not that it’s something I wouldn’t do now, but because then I wasn’t in the best shape of my life… I lost about 15 pounds, and I feel so proud. I look back and say, ‘Oh, my God, I was so heavy then.’ If you look now, I’m so much skinnier; my face is so much slimmer; my whole stomach is defined.”
Kim, who takes classes at Barry’s Boot Camp and trains with celeb trainer Gunnar Peterson, says, “When I am in shape, I feel sexy.”
It takes a lot of work to look like Kim.
“I am Armenian, so of course I am obsessed with laser hair removal! Arms, bikini,Tiffany, legs, underarms…my entire body is hairless,” she says.
Growing up, she always knew she’d be on a reality show.
“In elementary school, The Real World came on and I was like, That’s it! I know I want to be on a reality show,” she remembers. “And I was like, OK, when I’m old enough, I will make an audition tape.”
Now her highly-rated show is “our family therapy — everything’s on camera, so you’re forced to deal with issues that you might not have wanted to or been able to,” says Kardashian. (Indeed, the current issue of Us Weekly reports Kim and her sisters have “knock-down fights” over Kourtney’s contentious relationship with Scott Disick, the father of 8-month-old Mason.)

Adds his wife Tori Spelling, also on hand for the big day: “I’m so proud that I was able to be by Dean’s side…He’s wanted this for so long,” she tells Us. “We stopped for lunch after at Taco Bell and he said ‘This is my 1st taco as an American Citizen!’ So cute!”
